Gentlemen:
Reports having reached me that certain parties is this neighborhood are endeavoring to have me removed from this lock. I take this mode of informing the company that I wish to remain in charge of the locks and of proving to you that I have faithfully fulfilled my duty. I inclose a petition from the boatmen signed by the captains of the boats. I most respectfully ask to be continued.
