REF.06

Knoxville Md. Aug 01, 1866 c. P. Manning Chesapeake & Ohio Board Sirs; I am regrettably informed thats. L. Benson a lock keeper at f

lock 31 has made threats that the mill at Mesell and Graftons mill shall negate the use of the water granted to those by the canal board as Mr. McClure the miller had informed me Mr. Benison was never regularly appointed lock keeper at this lock and has become very disagreeable to the people in the vicinity of the lock.

I

would therefor recommend or suggest that said Benison be removed and another man appointed his station.

I would recommend the

appointment of Andrew H. Harrison a young man of small family, is father and industrious, his father having died in the employ of the company at this lock and is familiar with lock keeping. Therefore I believe he would give satisfaction and do his duty and do ask that said Andrew Harrison be appointed to said lock as lock keeper. Very Respectfully Geo. W. Spates Supv.
